Tolerating or Accepting?

Assalamualaikum,

To be honest, I never really want to talk about this topic, but it is such an inevitable issue in this country. As we all know, Malaysia is one of the nation that has been bestowed with diverse and multiracial community. Beside the three major races (Malay, Chinese, Indian), we have multiples ethnic across Malaysia such as Kadhazan, Dayak, and Iban. We all have live together in harmony and prosperous for over 60 years. Whether it is true or not that we are all living in harmony, maybe on the surface only. That is what Malaysian is trying to prove to the rest of the world that multiracial country can live in harmony, at least. So the real question now, are we all really accepting one another or just tolerating with one another for decades?

What is the Difference?

The thing is, we all can claim that we accept one another. The Malay can get along with the Chinese and Indian, The Sabahan and Sarawakian can be friend with the Peninsular. We all can claim that we are good to each other. But to be truthful, do we accept one another wholeheartedly or just tolerate with each other.

If we say that we accept all races and recognise each other as Malaysian, then there should not be any racial tension or provocation. Accepting one another means recognising that we are all the same. A Malaysian by heart. Not a Chinese, not an Indian or Malay, but a Malaysian. I know most Malaysian want it to be like this, where every races does not hold prejudice to one another. But there are some group (mostly political group) deliberately causing some racial tension by making provocative statements.

For that reason, I believe there is group of so-called Malaysian that are living with tolerance with other races. That is why when this group is being feed with provocative statements, they triggered and rage like no one business. They got mad claiming their rights is been taken away. This is the group that tolerate with other races, but will never truly accept other races as Malaysian.

Will it be Over?

Not all Malaysian are like this. There are still group of people with good heart, that only wants to be together with other races. But we don't really know how big is this group of accepting, and how big is the group of tolerating. I don't really know which one is the majority. And in silence, hope Malaysian can become the group of accepting.

Maybe in early Post-Merdeka period, we can understand if Malaya people was tolerating with each races. Because it was still new back then. But today? After more than 60 years of independence, our unification should be stronger than ever, and we should move forward together as a nation. But still up until this year, racial issue is still a thing in Malaysia. It got even worst after GE14.

Malaysian should really question their way forward. What is the nation direction? And is it worth to fight over racial and discrimination issue? We got bigger issue than that like Economic and Stock imbalance, Climate changes, animal extinction, criminal and legal issue, woman rights and the list goes on. There are literally hundred over issues and problems that need meticulous discussion and solutions. But what do we do? we fight over 'tuan tanah' and 'penumpang' issue.

I've seen and mingle with these group. Both the accepting and tolerating group. All I can say that we have a longggg way to go to become a fully unified nation. Maybe 100 years from now. To all who are in the accepting group, thank you for being and stay that way. And to the tolerating group, I wish you all the best in whatever you believe in.

Until Next Post, Adios!
