The Real Meaning Behind (500) Days of Summer

I have watched this movie a few times already. I like the movie. It's a story of how a guy falls in love with a girl, they got into a relationship and after a while, the girl decided to take off from the relationship and marry someone else. If you have watched the movie, you can see how devastated Tom (the main character) after the breakup and also after knowing that the girl she once loved decided to marry some other guy. We blame Summer (the girl) for being selfish and for only thinks of her feelings. Such an interesting interpretation of love story. But this is not a love story, this is a story about love.

The idea of the movie is not for us to judge who's to blame when one relationship did not work out. The movie showed us how a person can be in love with the relationship but not with the person who is in the relationship. If you recall, the way Tom visualize or talk about his love, he only said things like how he likes the way Summer smiles, laughs and everything she does. Tom only loves the idea of being in relationship with Summer at that time. He likes having a perfect relationship with the type of person that fits into his liking. For him, Summer is perfect. But little did he knows that he doesn't really love Summer. He just loves the idea of being in a relationship with that kind of girl.

That's a teenage love I would say. But Summer is looking for real love. She wanted to have a guy who would take her seriously. A person to be with for the rest of her life and accept her bad and good wholeheartedly. That's why when a guy came to her and ask her for marriage, she agreed. Tom was unable to understand that, thus she left.

Love is a complicated journey. But surely one day we all would find the most suitable love for us. Love is not perfect. You might have some ideas on how your future spouse should be. But if that person is not meant for you, then it is not. Don't push yourself to find something that isn't for you. Trust your heart, In Sha Allah, you will find someone that belongs in your heart. Just like what Summer said, "someday someone will walk into your life and make you realize why it never worked out with anyone else".

Until Next Post, Adios!
